Budapest, the capital of Hungary and considered by many to be the "Paris of the East", is one of the most culturally important metropolises in Eastern Europe and home to numerous UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Although humans have lived here since the Stone Age, this beautiful city only formally came into being in 1872 with the amalgamation of three previously independent towns - Old Buda (Óbuda), Buda and Pest to become the administrative, commercial and industrial center of Hungary.

The SaintMargaretIsland, which is situated in the middle of the river Danube, is also a famous location for tourists.  

Gellért Hill

Budapest's most striking features is the panoramic Gellért Hill, a 235-meter block of dolomite that falls steeply down to the Danube. It's here along the hill's geological fault line that several of the city's most famous medicinal springs emerge to supply the Gellért Spa and Rudas Baths, which have lured visitors from far and wide since the 13th century.

Chain Bridge

The Chain Bridge was the first bridge to permanently connect Buda and Pest. At the time of its completion, Chain Bridge was considered to be one of the wonders of the world. Chief engineer Adam Clark completed the span in 1849. Crossing the bridge is just a short walk and no matter which direction you go, the view is beautiful.

St. Stephen’s Basilica

St. Stephen’s Basilica, or Lipót City Parish Church, is one of the most significant ecclesiastical buildings of Hungary as well as a major tourist attraction of the capital. It serves as the main site of worship for St. Stephen. The Basilica is named after St. Stephen, the founder of the Kingdom of Hungary, whose incorruptible right hand, known as the Holy Right, is kept here as a relic. It is the largest church in Budapest, the dome of which can be seen from all parts of the city.

Climb Gellert Hill

Those who are looking for real fun and adventure in Budapest will find that Gellert Hill has a lot to offer. Gellert Hill is the highest peak of central Budapest and is named after Saint Gerard.
