Tower Bridge - Tourist Attraction In London

London Bridge is one of the best known landmarks in London England.  Officially called "Tower Bridge", this combined bascule and suspension bridge consists of two 213 foot towers.  The central 200 foot central span can be raised to permit ships to pass underneath.Visitors to London England can learn about London Bridge in an exhibition called the "Tower Bridge Experience" that is located in the towers. London Bridge is also a great location from which to take photographs of the Thames River and the London skyline.

Built between 1886 and 1894, Tower Bridge is another colossus of the London skyline. One of London's most popular sightseeing locations, Tower Bridge is the only of the London bridges that can allow the passage of ships underneath it, by opening its bascules. The spectaular towers are floodlit at night to give an awe inspiring atmosphere and some of the most beautiful views of all of London City and the surrounding areas.

The south tower contains The Tower Bridge Museum where among other things, the original Victorian steam-driven machinery which was used to raise and lower the bridge, can be found. The Tower Bridge Experience is also found here. This is an extensive exhibition demonstrating the history of the bridge in the form of film and holograms.

The East Walkway houses the exhibition 'Great Bridges of the World' this photographic exhibition features over 20 Bridges, each of which represents a breath-taking feat of engineering. Visitors can also enjoy temporary exhibitions which run throughout the year. Continue on to the original lifting machinery in the Victorian Engine Rooms, complete with sounds and smells that transport you back in time to the Bridge's origins.

The simplest way by public transport is the London Underground to Tower Hill around the Circle and District Lines. This is opposite the Tower based in London. You just walk on the eastern side from the Tower of London to the bridge.A more scenic option is to reach by boat around the scheduled river services that stay in front of the Tower based in london.

Taking photographs from the Tower bridge is a popular London tourist activity, however, you can also go inside the bridge, where you will have a magnificent view over London in the walkway between the two bridge towers.
