The Golden Gate Bridge is a technical masterpiece that can only be described in superlative terms. When the bridge was completed in 1937 it was the world's longest and tallest suspension bridge. The Golden Gate bridge is one of the most famous and beautiful bridges in the world because of its spectacular location, graceful lines, Art Deco detailing, and emblematic color. With towers extending 700 feet into the sky and over 100 feet beneath the bay, the bridge is also an engineering marvel. You may walk or bike the entire length of the 1.2 mile-long bridge, but dress warmly.

The Golden Gate Bridge has become the first in California to exclusively collect tolls electronically, either via FasTrak transponders or a video system that records license plate numbers of cars as they drive through the toll plaza. Drivers can set up license-plate accounts or make one-time purchases of toll tags online or at kiosks in retail stores throughout the Bay Area.
